Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable with a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
